If you’re looking for a place to go for a family camping trip, consider the area around Lake Isabella. This 11,000-acre lake interrupts the Kern River, Southern California’s most popular whitewater river. It is the perfect location for swimming, water skiing, and other water sports. Surrounding the lake are several thousand acres of Sequoia National Forest, providing opportunities for hiking, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Campgrounds in the area are plentiful.
Paradise Cove Campground
For a unique camping experience in Sequoia National Forest, Paradise Cove Campground is a great choice. This campground is located right off Highway 178, on the southern shore of Lake Isabella. The campground has 46 sites with side-by-side parking and back-in camping. Visitors can walk to the lake, swim, or go boating. Some people even enjoy windsurfing or waterskiing while camping at Paradise Cove Campground.
The campground is quiet and the staff was friendly, but there were few amenities. Its clean rooms and showers were not available for long and there were no campsite hosts on site. We had to pay at the gate at the end of our stay, which made our stay much more difficult. However, there is now a booking system that allows reservations for the campground, so you can plan your trip accordingly.
Camp 9 Campground
Located on the northeast shore of Lake Isabella, this campground is close to the town of Kernville. The lake is ideal for water sports, including boating and fishing. Throughout the year, Camp 9 is a popular destination for RV campers. There is plenty of parking for trailers and motorized watercraft. The surrounding area can get very hot in the summer, so be prepared. But if you’re camping in the summer, don’t worry! There are many activities to keep you busy during your stay.
There are 109 campsites at the Camp 9 campground, with 23 designated for RVs and trailers. The remaining campgrounds can accommodate tents and RVs. There are 11 Group Campsites as well. Most family campsites are available for reservation, while some are first-come, first-serve. While there are some restrictions on where you can camp, it should be safe for your RV. Whether you want to enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, swimming, or just relaxing, there is a campsite to fit every taste and budget.
Hungry Gulch Campground
If you’re looking for a great place to stay on Lake Isabella, then look no further than the Hungry Gulch Campground. Located at Ponderosa Drive, this campground offers 78 campsites for RVs, tents, and trailers. Some of the campsites have distant lake views, while others are more open and feature boulders. The campground also offers programs and activities for its guests.
Hungry Gulch Campground sits on the shore of Lake Isabella, just 3 miles away. It is located in Sequoia National Forest, and has amenities like a playground and fish cleaning stations. Keyesville Recreation Site
The Keyesville Recreation Site for lake Isabella camping is a great place to bring your family and enjoy all the activities available. This historic mining town is set on rolling terrain and dissected by the lower Kern River. It features historic buildings, white-water rafting, gold-panning, and 70 miles of trails. You can camp right next to the river, with vault toilets and fire rings. You are also allowed to bring your pets, but you must be sure to keep them safe.
If you’re looking for a place to raft, you can rent a kayak or go fishing. The Kern River features trout and bass, and its rocks were polished by spring floods before the Lake Isabella dam was built. Be sure to check the current and stay away from the water, as it can get pretty fast. There are no other places closer to Keyesville than this scenic location.
Boulder Gulch Campground
If you are visiting the Sequoia National Forest, consider staying at the Boulder Gulch Campground on Lake Isabela. This campground is located in the foothills, near the western shore of Lake Isabella. The area offers countless recreational opportunities, and the campground is close to Lake Isabella. There are 58 paved campsites at the Boulder Gulch Campground, and the site features flush toilets, drinking water, and a fish cleaning station. For those looking to go fishing, there’s also a store located across the highway.
